QA launches DevOps apprenticeship programme in Scotland
SCQF Level 8 IT apprenticeship to include DevOps engineering track.
In its 2021 DevOps Skills Report, the DevOps institute stated that 60% of organisations are currently recruiting or planning to recruit DevOps engineers, increasing pressure on an already limited skills pool.
To help Scottish organisations close the DevOps skills gap, QA is pleased to announce the latest addition to its apprenticeship offering, an SCQF Level 8 apprenticeship track designed to provide learners with the methodologies, professional knowledge and skills required to succeed in a DevOps engineering role.
Paul Masterman, Operations Director at QA, said:
“A quick search on LinkedIn today reveals more than 400 open DevOps roles in Glasgow and Edinburgh alone. With this ongoing demand for DevOps engineers it makes sense that more organisations build their DevOps talent internally, taking advantage of the latest thinking and knowledge that an apprenticeship brings to the IT and Operations teams but also the increased staff retention and diversity that an apprenticeship programme is proven to deliver.”
The new DevOps apprenticeship programme from QA will provide a comprehensive range of technical skills and practical abilities including Databases and SQL; Linux Fundamentals; HTML, Java Script and ASP .Net MVC Level3; CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+. Individuals completing the apprenticeship will be equipped with the right skills for job roles such as DevOps Software Technician, Automatic Technician and Build Technician.
Taught via a mixture of blended online resources, tutor led training and assessor support, the programme is designed to provide the highly sought-after DevOps skills that Scottish employers need while also being flexible enough to accommodate any business or role-specific requirements to maximise the value of the programme to each employer.
New for this year, apprentices will also be able to benefit from access to QA’s online training library Cloud Academy for the duration of the apprenticeship. This provides learners with access to thousands of hours of additional IT, tech and business modules relevant to their role or interests, for example, Agile Awareness and other DevOps methodologies.
On successful completion of the programme apprentices will gain a Technical Apprenticeship including SQA Diploma for IT and Telecommunication Professional at SCQF Level 8.
