Grammarly - an online grammar checker that will improve your grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. PLEASE NOTE: Grammarly is an AI tool, and its use must be in accordance with the QA AI Policy - meaning Grammarly's input may only be sparse and spread out in the final text.

The Evernote app allows users to create and save notes, drawings, photographs, and saved web content.

VeritySpell for Google Docs is an advanced spellchecker that corrects spelling and grammar mistakes. It is specially designed for people with reading and writing difficulties and dyslexia, but it is well suited for anyone who needs spelling assistance and language support.

Read&Write for Google Chrome

This app is designed to help everyone engage with digital content in a way that suits their abilities and learning styles. Read&Write offers a range of powerful support tools to help you gain confidence with reading, writing, studying, and research. These include:

  • a text-to-speech function, enabling you to hear words, passages, or whole documents read aloud;
  • text and picture dictionaries, explaining the meaning of words; and
  • word prediction, which offers suggestions for the current or next word as you type.

With Read&Write, you can also:

  • collect highlights from text in documents or the web for your research;
  • create and listen to voice notes in Google Docs; and
  • simplify text on web pages by removing distracting ads.

Word Bank Universal app allows you to create and use word banks for writing, vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension. Word Bank Universal also summarises and extracts important people, places, and numbers from web pages, along with a timeline. Create a word bank for any materials or articles online with the click of a button.

The Hemmingway app and web page makes your writing bold and clear. It highlights lengthy, complex sentences, and common errors, allowing you to tidy up your writing. It is free to try, and the full desktop version is inexpensive to buy.

Reading

VLeBooks Accessibilty Tools Discover some of the accessible learning features available through the VLeBooks platform, including read-aloud functionality, zoom tools, and colour and contrast settings.

Kortext Accessibility Tools Kortext allows its users to convert text to speech with its app's Read Aloud function. It can also change font and size to suit your needs and provides alternative text for images.

Read Mode is a Google Chrome extension. It puts Google Chrome into "read mode" for a pleasant reading experience. By clicking on the "glasses" icon in the address bar, the webpage will turn into a easy-to-read, black-on-white page, allowing you to read without tiring your eyes. Click the icon again and everything will go back to normal.

BeeLine Reader uses a colour gradient to guide your eyes from the end of one line to the beginning of the next. This makes reading easier because it allows you to transition between lines quickly and effortlessly. Many people are able to read 20% or 30% faster with BeeLine.

Adobe Read Out Loud - Read out loud is a useful feature to vary your learning and will appeal to you if you have an audio learning preference or dyslexia or a visual impairment.
