Member of, and advisor to, industry and government cyber security bodies.

Richard is a member of the prestigious Offensive Security (OffSec) Advisory Board, a role he has held for over 4 years. He is a founding member of the international ISC2 Partner Advisory Committee (PAC), a crucial role to provide expert cyber security industry insights to the global certification body ISC2.

Richard is an assessor for the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Certified Undergraduate Degrees in Cyber Security Panel. The role of the Panel is to assess applications for certified degrees in cyber security and to determine whether each application has successfully met the criteria for NCSC certification.

He was appointed to the government Department for Education (DfE) Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE), soon to be Skills England, Digital Route Panel in 2022.

Richard is a mentor for the CyberASAP pre-seed funding cyber innovation accelerator programme. Which provides academics with the expertise, knowledge and training needed to convert their research into technologies, products and services in this key sector of the global economy.

Member of the DoD 8140 Certification Advisory Board for education provider. The 8140 program supports the professionalisation of the cyber workforce within the DoD, aligning with the DoD Cyberspace Workforce Framework.

Previously vice chair and chair the government Communication Industry Information Exchange for UK critical infrastructure (CPNI / NPSA).

Richard was re-elected to the UK trade and industry body advising government, the TechUK Cyber Management Committee, supporting on the skills and emerging tech agendas.

A regular contributor for cyber insights, an industry collaborator leading cyber skills meetups, whilst finding time to judge the UK national cyber awards judge, and speaker engagements.

He is passionate about making a difference through education that equips individuals from all backgrounds with tomorrow’s digital skills to maximise their potential and succeed in the workplace.

Career highlights:

  • Richard has designed and architected numerous enterprise, nationwide and international cyber programmes, including CyberFirst for the NCSC, Women in Cyber (WiCyS), global Secure Software Engineering programme, and the award-winning National Cybercrime Programme.
  • He pioneered the very first UK cyber security apprentice ‘fast track’ programme for the UK government, going on to establish all three of QA’s successful L4 cyber apprenticeships.
  • Working to secure one of the UK’s first nationwide digital transformations, across UK Air Defence infrastructure.
  • Led multiple large scale critical national infrastructure (CNI) security programmes, defending 20% of UK CNI, including the security design and delivery of the UK north Smart Metering energy communications solution.
