Overview
This three-day course is designed primarily for information technology (IT) professionals who have some experience with Windows Server. It is designed for professionals who will be responsible for managing components such as storage and networking with high availability and disaster recovery technologies such as live migration, storage migration, and Hyper-V Replica. In addition, it provides in-depth coverage of Failover Clustering, including a detailed implementation of failover clustering of Hyper-V in Windows Server 2022 using Scale-Out File Server. This course focuses on configuration using the new Windows Admin Centre, in addition to Windows PowerShell.
Prerequisites
Before attending this course, students must have:
- Knowledge and real-world experience working day-to-day with Windows Servers in an enterprise environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with basic local storage concepts and technologies, such as disks, volumes, and file systems.
- Experience supporting and configuring Windows Server operating systems, such as Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019. (This is beneficial but not essential).
Additionally, students would benefit from having some previous experience of Windows PowerShell.
Target audience
This course is intended for IT professionals who have some experiencing working with Windows Server, are involved in storage and high availability management and provisioning, and who want to acquire knowledge and training on the latest technologies. This course will help them update their knowledge and skills related to Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022.
Candidates suitable for this course would be:
- Windows Server administrators who are relatively new to Windows Server administration and related technologies, and who want to learn more about the new features in Windows Server 2022.
- IT professionals who have skills in other areas, such as general system administration, who are looking for knowledge and skills for career development in Windows Server high availability and fault tolerant deployments.
Delegates will learn how to
After completing this course, students will have an understanding of the new Windows Server 2022 features include enhancements in the following areas:
- Plan and implement high availability and disaster recovery in Windows Server 2022.
- Plan and implement failover clusters
- Manage server roles and resources in failover clusters
- Implement and manage virtual machines by using Hyper-V with failover clustering.
- Plan and implement NLB clusters.
- Plan and implement Distributed File System (DFS).
- Plan and implement Storage Replica.
Outline
Module 1 - High Availability
Describes the high availability and disaster recovery, how to plan for and how to implement high availability in both physical and virtual environments including the deployment and configuration of Hyper-V Replica.
Module 2 - Network Load Balancing
Describes NLB and how this technology works. This module also covers the situations for which NLB is appropriate, how to configure and manage NLB clusters, how to perform maintenance tasks on NLB clusters.
Module 3 - Failover Clustering
Describes how to plan Failover Clustering implementation and how to create and configure new failover clusters. Additionally, this module describes how to configure roles, services and storage for high availability with a failover cluster. Students will learn about configuring, managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting failover clusters, in addition to implementing site high availability with multisite failover clustering.
Module 4 - Failover Clustering with Hyper-V
Describes how to implement Failover Clustering in a Hyper-V scenario to achieve high availability for a virtual environment. This module also describes how to deploy and configure a Scale-Out File Server for high availability network shares to support virtual machines and applications.
Module 5 - Data Replication Services
Describes Distributed File System (DFS) and how this technology works. This module also covers the situations for which DFS is appropriate, how to configure and manage DFS. This module also introduces Storage Replica and provides an understanding of replication types and supported deployments of the technology.
Module 6 - Managing High Availability
Describes how to manage and troubleshoot a Failover Cluster including cluster-network heartbeats and Cluster-Aware Updating and also describes issues associated with Cluster Name Objects, no quorum and monitoring performance of a failover cluster.
