Overview
This course will provide you with an understanding of why BIM Level 2 has been adopted as a UK Government requirement and how BIM supports Lean principles to reduce waste in construction and asset management. This course will provide an overview of the standards that define BIM Level 2 and the fundamental processes of a Common Data Environment (CDE).
This course will also help you understand BIM Level 2 from the perspective of clients and customers. The role of information in managing assets and projects more efficiently and the tools defined in BIM Level 2 for this (information requirements, soft landings, asset information models).
In additional, you will understand BIM Level 2 from the perspective of designers, constructors and supply chain. Responding to the client’s information requirements (EIR). Tools used in the supply chain to manage and exchange information (CDE, COBie, IFC).
Putting BIM Level 2 into the broader context of information security, roles and responsibilities. Reflecting on the impact of BIM Level 2 for your organization and what next steps need to be taken.
Prerequisites
An organization that has already decided it needs to implement BIM level 2, or wishes to know more about what BIM Level 2 would mean for them
Delegates will benefit from reading the Level 2 BIM suite of documents before attending the course.
The BIM Level 2 suite of documents consists of BS 1192:2007 + A2:2016, PAS 1192-2:2013, PAS 1192-3:2014, BS 1192-4:2014, PAS 1192-5:2015 and BS 8536-1:2015.
These documents have been developed to help the Construction industry to adopt Level 2 BIM.
The availability of this suite of documents for free download has been made possible due to sponsorship from the Construction Industry Council (CIC) on behalf of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) Task Group.

Outline
The aim of this course is to raise awareness of, and to explain the basic principles of BIM. This will enable delegates to understand the concepts of BIM and how the public sector is building its capability and approach to deliver what is now known as BIM Level 2 on all UK Government centrally procured projects. To provide an introduction to the more detailed BSI Masterclasses which focus on specific aspects of BIM Level 2.
